KKiraz has registered the Bachelors Degree in Chemistry in 2001.  The same year he also started as a part time laboratory assistant in Inorganic Research Labs under the supervision of Mehmet Somer.

In 2003, the Degussa (Recently Evonik) and Koç University collaboration allowed him and 3 other BS students to have summer internship in the Research and QC laboratories of Degussa AG, Wolfgang – Hanau.  The focus of this work was either to improve the characteristics of the various Aerosil products (SiO2 based admixture material) or to confirm the standards of external plants’ works.

In 2004 and 2005 summers, he was granted with DAAD scholar and participated to the research group of Prof. Dr. Eva Marie Hey-Hawkins in the Organometallics Research Labs of Leipzig University.  In the total 6 months of study he participated to the synthesis and mainly NMR characterization of Hepta-Phosphine (P7-3) structures which are novel building block to replace carbon framework.

In 2006, the BS degree is completed and he started The MSc degree in Materials Science and Engineering with Tübitak Master-Scholar at KU.  Next collaboration is maintained with the Technical University of Darmstadt specifically with the Prof. Dr. Rüdiger-A. Eichel from Analytical Chemistry.  His work focused on the Fe-doped Piezoelectrical PbTiO3 crystals and their mainly EPR analyses.

In 2009 when he was graduated from MSc degree, he was assigned to the Energy Materials and Devices group of Prof. Dr. Peter Notten at the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands.  He worked there as full time researcher and PhD candidate with the research topic of Hydrogen Storage in Mg-based Thin Films as Energy Carrier Materials.

In 2013, right after the closure of the funding and the discontinuation of several research groups at TU/e, he came back to Turkey and later on proposed the extension of Hydrogen Studies as Switchable Mirror Material at wider spectroscopic range which is funded by Tübitak.  Pavezyum, KU and TU/e multi-institutional project end date is August 2016.

His main research interests are energy systems; alternative energy generation and storage;
